Knowing whether your ewes are pregnant and how many lambs they are carrying is important to reduce twin lamb disease, devise an appropriate feed plan and minimise culling losses. Would you like to practice external transdermal ultrasound scanning for your flock? Look no further as this course is for you!
Our training groups are small, aiming to maximise your learning experience. Learn primarily through practical tuition and some video demonstrations. The course content is:
- Understand the principles and applications of ultrasound scanning
- Review key performance points of ultrasound applications
- Familiarise yourselves with the operation of the scanner
- Practice ultrasound scanning on farm
- Pregnancy diagnosis and identification of single, twins, triplets and quads
The organisers’ combined experience brings in knowledge and images from the UK, Canada, US, New Zealand and Europe. Our LANTRA Ultrasound Scanning course will help you set the foundations for practising external scanning on sheep. This course on ovine ultrasonography is farm and classroom based and involves a maximum of 2 delegates.
We would work with any make of scanners. Provided it is battery operated, we would encourage you to bring your own sector scanner with your goggles or screen. Otherwise, we can supply a Reproscan model for you to practice on the day.
One tutor per up to two delegates, the 1-day course runs from 10:00 until 16:00. The course is LANTRA approved.
Your course tutor is Dr Sotirios Karvountzis MRCVS, who has over 20 years’ experience as a vet and foot trimmer. He is a LANTRA Freelance Instructor, City & Guilds NPTC Assessor and CowSignals Master Trainer.
The course is LANTRA approved and is proudly supported by Dairymac – Animal Health Products and Reproscan.
